‘Djole’ becomes Olympiacos’ top UEFA Cup scorer
By: Peter Katsiris | February 21st, 2009
It’s merely consolation, but Predrag Djordjevic’s penalty goal in Olympiacos’ 3-1 defeat to Saint-Etienne on Wednesday made him the club’s all-time leading scorer in European competition.
Bagging his fifteenth goal in Europe against the Ligue 1 outfit, Djordjevic surpassed Nikos Anastopoulos’ mark of fourteen goals to become Olympiacos’ leading scorer after eighty-nine appearances in Europe for the ‘Erythrolefki’. Anastasopoulos set his mark after twenty-nine matches for Olympiacos in Europe.
While the Serb currently holds the club record for European tallies, his record could become under fire sooner rather than later as Diogo and Luciano Galletti already have five goals for the Piraeus giants.
