Anorthosis up next for Olympiacos
By: Peter Katsiris | August 6th, 2008A 3-1 loss to Austria’s Rapisd Wien was not enough to knockout Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta from the 2nd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Champions League. The reward for the Cypriot Champions is a two leg affair with the Greek Champions starting next week; a rematch of a qualifying tie from ten years ago.
Anorthosis ran out 3-0 winners last week in Cyprus and were favorites to progress to the next round where an all Greek affair was awaiting them. Anorthosis didn’t disappoint its supporters, but certainly sent a scare as Rapid nearly leveled the tie; the lone away goal scored in the tie became the deciding factor in the tie.
Unlike their opponents, Olympiacos begin their European campaign in the 3rd Qualifying Round and will make their season debut in Cyprus next week. Olympiacos are expected to include new signings Sebastian Leto, and Dudu in the roster for the two legged tie.
