Diogo: I will give it my all
By: Peter Katsiris | November 27th, 2008
Ahead of his side’s UEFA Cup encounter with Benfica, Diogo assured the Greek media his sights are set on European success. The Brazilian has performed well, but has not lived up to the hype of his multi-million euro transfer from Portuguesa to Piraeus this past summer.
With four goals to date in Olympiacos’ domestic campaign, Diogo has contributed to the cause against the likes of rivals AEK and PAOK. Now, the Brazilian has put the spotlight on himself as he prepares to be the spearhead in the Olympiacos attack, in the Greek Champions’ bid to reach the knockout rounds.
With the Brazlian usually playing to his lonesome in attack, the former Portuguesa talisman realizes his role in attack will not always be left vacant. With the likes of super sub Darko Kovacevic trailing the Brazilian in terms of favour, the Brazilian is aware he must perform on the big stage – this year’s UEFA Cup.
The Olympiacos number ten spoke to Greek website SPORT 24 ahead of the match, explaining his thoughts on his performances, and the outlook for Olympiacos.
“I don’t know if I’m going to play but if I get the opportunity, I will give it my all,” explained Diogo.
It was a modest side of a Brazilian making headlines over a possible move out of Piraeus, after the likes of Premier League titans, Chelsea FC, have sparked interest in Olympiacos’ prospect.
“I’m not concerned about getting signed up by a scout, because I’ve only been here for a little while and I have a lot to offer to Olympiacos.”
“We weren’t playing good football at the start but we have improved a lot. That is satisfactory, because aside from results, there needs to be spectacle.”
When asked about the upcoming encounter with Benfica, Diogo continued the modesty, leaving nothing for reporters to decipher. “I don’t see a favourite; the winner will be determined by whoever makes the fewest mistakes.”
