Farias transfer rumors continue to flicker for Olympiacos

Though the need is rather demanding, there hasn’t been much speculation as to who Olympiacos will import in place of retired striker Darko Kovacevic. The Greek Champions have been left with just two strikers after the Serbian star was forced to end his career after undergoing a coronary angioplasty in Spain.
FC Porto’s Ernesto Antonio Farias has been one of the prominent targets for Olympiacos, that after previous targets Ciprian Marica and Nihat Kahveci were forced out of action with their respective clubs due to serious injuries requiring surgery.
Porto’s Argentine ace has been linked with a move to Piraeus ever since Kovacevic was ruled out of action, but from what the Greek press is reporting, the talks for the services of the 28-year-old have not reached an advanced stage.
The main barrier keeping Olympiacos from agreeing to import Farias to Europe’s largest port city has been Porto’s asking price for the services of the former River Plate and Estudiantes star. According to reports from in and around the Greek capital, the Portuguese giants have slapped a € 1.2 million price tag on Farias. The Greek Champions, however, are not willing to pay that six-figure price and have requested Porto to reduce their demands for a Farias transfer.
It’s a worrying state for Olympiacos supporters, who were originally against the club’s plans to start the season with three strikers. Now with just two forwards in Brazilian ace Diogo and Greek starlet Konstantinos Mitroglou, loyal supporters of the ‘Erythrolefki’ are left with another mid-season headache.
