Injuries causing Piraeus problems

By: Peter Katsiris | November 6th, 2008

Olympiacos announced injuries to Paraskevas Antzas and Konstantinos Mitroglou could plague the Greek Champions ahead of Sunday’s mouth-watering clash with arch-rivals Panathinaikos. The pair is set to miss the first edition of the most anticipated fixture on the Super League calendar, as two of Greece’s most successful clubs are set to meet at OAKA on Sunday.

Paraskevas Antzas, a regular in Olympiacos’ back-line, is tipped to miss out on the trip as the former Greece international was unable to complete practice today. Another crack at performing tomorrow will determine his availability; but the outlook is not positive for Antzas.

Unlike Antzas, Konstantinos Mitroglou is definitely unavailable as an injury to his left calf will keep him sidelined. The Greece U-21 international has not featured in many games this season, but if Olympiacos needs an added push in attack, they will have to look elsewhere. Mitroglou’s diagnosis is subject to an MRI on Friday.

Brazilian defender, Leonardo, followed an individual training program; while Christos Patsatzoglou returned to regular training ahead of the release of the Olympiacos roster.

Another announcement made by the club included information about the final training the club has scheduled ahead of the derby. Olympiacos revealed the Renti training ground’s doors will be open to the public on Saturday, as the club hopes to endure plenty of confidence ahead of the titanic meeting in Athens.

Seitaridis hasn’t been playing much, as he’s usually the 2nd choice right back. It’s a shame because he’s been doing good in the Greek national team from what I hear. His few performances at Atleti this year have been decent, but his moment to shine is imminent. It’s just that competition in the defense is very stiff.

And I also have an off-topic question for you too. I keep on hearing rumors about Olympiacos wanting Nery Castillo back (probably not true). Are the two parties on such bad terms that he’ll never go back? Nery constantly states how he wants to go back but it may never be a possibility. I keep on hearing mixed things.
