Injury bug hits Piraeus

By: Peter Katsiris | September 2nd, 2008

The season is only a few days young, but that hasn’t stopped nagging injuries to bite some of Olympiacos core players. Predrag Djordjevic is among those who have been ruled out, while Greece-international Vassilis Torosidis was absent in Saturday night’s 3-1 win over Asteras.

Captain, Djordjevic, has been ruled out for the next fifteen days or so with a slight rupture the meniscus and right tendon. The former Serbia international is expected to miss his club’s next fixture against Skoda Xanthi and possibly the first leg of the club’s UEFA Cup tie with Danish side FC Nordsjælland.

As for defender Torosidis, he is due for National Team duty with Greece on Saturday and the following Wednesday. After missing out on the weekend fixture against Asteras, the team is optimistic ‘Toro’ wont rush his return to action. Greece travels to Luxembourg for a tilt with the host country on Saturday, before heading off for Riga where Latvia provides the opposition four days later.
