Kovacevic undergoes successful operation

Darko Kovacevic underwent a successful operation, which consisted of a coronary angioplasty, today in San Sebastian. Though the operation was ‘100 percent’ successful, Kovacevic will remain in hospital until Wednesday, when he is likely to be discharged.
The club confirmed the news of their Serbian striker with a press release on the club’s official website, www.olympiacos.org: “Olympiacos FC player, Darko Kovacevic was submitted to a coronary angioplasty in San Sebastian, Spain, on Tuesday, January 13, morning. The player was successfully operated and is expected to be released tomorrow.”
The operation which is correctly known as precutaneous coronary angioplasty saw surgeons widen the narrowed coronary arteries of the heart. The arteries which become narrower and narrower over time through the build-up of plaque – mainly cholesterol – is one symptom of atherosclerosis, which is a form of arteriosclerosis.
This form of arteriosclerosis appears to be a genetic trait in Kovacevic’s family tree, as both his father and brother lost their life to this disease.
Olympiacos relieved over Torosidis’ fitness
Olympiacos CFP was very relieved to find out star defender, Vassilis Torosidis, was not seriously injured against Skoda Xanthi on Saturday. Subjected to an MRI and ultrasound on Monday, Torosidis’ diagnosis was not as severe as the club had feared and therefore were relieved to find out Torosidis’ fitness was not in jeopardy.
