Time could be up on Cristian Raúl Ledesma’s stay with Olympiacos, as the Argentine has been left off Olympiacos 22-man roster for the UEFA Champions League qualifier against Anorthosis Famagusta. After a successful start to the season last year, Ledesma went down to a nagging injury several times. He was a favourite for a starting spot under former manager Takis Lemonis; and eventually Lemonis replacement, Jose Segoura. However, the 29-year old has not been able to impress new manager Ernesto Valverde and has been rarely played in any of the club’s season friendlies.
It seems the club is keen on getting rid of Ledesma as he currently takes up on of the international spots that the club is in desperate need of. With the transfer of a striker very much necessary, and the transfer of Diogo Santo eminent to fill that void; Ledesma could be show the door to make room for the transfer.
Fortunately for both player and club, an outside club is willing to take Ledesma away from the Greek Champions. Argentine club, San Lorenzo, have been tracking Ledesma for months and now seem to be the next stop in Ledesma’s career. A former player of San Lorenzo, reports from Argentina are stating that Ledesma has the utmost desire of returning to San Lorenzo.
After a meeting between representatives of both San Lorenzo and Ledesma, Adrian Castellano’s — Ledesma’s agent — revelead the transfer to San Lorenzo is more difficult than it sounds. “We did not make any progress yesterday. We might have some better news today, but things are not that simple, as we have a huge financial gap over our heads.” Castellano also mentioned that San Lorenzo are currently debating whether to buy or loan Ledesma.
