Leto arrives in Athens

By: Peter Katsiris | August 4th, 2008

One of Olympiacos’ new summer arrivals arrived in Athens late Monday night, after agreeing to join the Greek Champions on a one year loan from Liverpool. Sebastian Leto was greeted by several Olympiacos supporters who camped out at the Eleutheros Venizelos Airport.

Leto arrives in Greece knowing the only thing holding him back from a spot on the Liverpool squad is a work permit. Under the suspicion that his passport is involved in the distribution of fake Italian passports, the Argentine was denied a work permit once again.

Olympiacos has the chance to extend the loan to the summer of 2010 if Leto shines with the Greek Champions. The fight to keep Leto in England, and with Liverpool, will continue behind the scenes as Rafa Benitez is keen to keep Leto in England. Rafa’s determination could be a good indication that Leto is in fact a gem, and could succeed in Greece.

Leto will in good company at Olympiacos, as he joins countrymen Luciano Galletti, Fernando Belluschi, and Cristian Ledesma. The promising left winger has had plenty of offseason preparation with the Reds, and insists he is ready to go ahead of Olympiacos 3rd Qualifying Round tie against Anorthosis for a spot in the group stage of the Champions League.
