Leto nears contract extension with Olympiacos

According to reports from Greece, Olympiacos and Sebastian Leto are close to agreeing to a one-year contract extension which would see the Argentine remain a member of ‘O Thrylos’ through the 2009/2010 season.
Olympiacos general manager Giannis Chrysikopoulos met with the agent of Sebastian Leto, Fernando Cosentino on Thursday to discuss the possibility of keeping Leto in Piraeus for at least one more year.
According to Greek newspaper ‘Protathlitis’, both sides agreed to an extension in principle, but an extraneous variable could keep Leto from remaining an Olympiacos player. Currently on loan with the Greek Champions from Liverpool, Leto’s stay in Greece will ultimately be decided by the Premier League giants.
Fitting in nicely as a perfect replacement for traditional starter Predrag Djordjevic, Leto has impressed and has become a critical part of Ernesto Valverde’s squad.
The potential move will depend on Liverpool’s decision, which will ultimately depend on Leto’s ability to secure a work permit in England. Previously failing to attain a permit ahead of this season, Liverpool agreed to loan Leto to Greece for one season with an option for extension at the end of this term.
