Olympiacos battling PSV Eindhoven for Mosquera
By: Peter Katsiris | January 8th, 2009
Olympiacos’ pursuit of Rosenborg’s Alexander Tettey has made headlines in Greece for several weeks now, the Norway international isn’t the only transfer target for the Greek Champions this winter. The last few days have revealed Olympiacos’ preference to pursue the transfer of Sevilla’s Asquivaldo Mosquera.
Reports from Spain support the claim, but also provide information that Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven are equally interested in the Columbian international.
While Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo was left to reveal Olympiacos’ interest in Mosquera, the player’s agent, Mariano Torres, confirmed there was contact from Olympiacos but downplayed the level of negotiations to nothing but interest.
“This isn’t the first time Olympiacos has expressed interest in my client; they were very interested in Mosquera in 2007 but at that time the offers from Sevilla were more attractive. Interest for Mosquera continues, but there is nothing worth commenting on at this point,” said Torres.
Securing Mosquera’s services during this transfer window may not be as easy as Olympiacos hopes, while the club is not afraid to shell out money for its transfer targets, it must be noted that club president Sokratis Kokkalis is rather conservative in his spending during the month of January.
With many winter purchases in the past not costing the club much money, Sevilla could set the transfer price at around €8 million – the approximate price paid by Sevilla to Mexican club Pachuca back in 2007.
