Olympiacos send Ledesma out on loan

Olympiacos has let Argentine midfielder Cristian Raúl Ledesma join his former club, San Lorenzo, on a one-year loan. The 29-year old was a regular in the starting 11 until manager Takis Lemonis was sacked after the tie with Chelsea in the Champions League. Battling injury problems, Ledesma found it difficult to regain his starting role with the club once he lost it.
Thing didn’t change for ‘El Lobo’ under the club’s newest manager Ernesto Valverde. Although the club is yet to make a competitive experience this season, Ledesma was left riding the bench for several Olympiacos friendlies thus far. It seems the club was prepared to leave Ledesma the odd man out in order to make non-EU player room for this summer’s signings — most likely the case for acquiring Diogo from Portuguesa.
Returning to his home club was Ledesma’s first choice behind staying in Greece. The Greek Champions had initially agreed with Cypriot club Omonia on a loan deal for ‘El Lobo’ but the deal fell through when Ledesma insisted on a return to Argentina. San Lorenzo were always favourites to sign Ledesma, after serious interest came from the Argentine club throughout the latter parts of the season.
The club confirmed the loan deal by an announcement posted on the club’s homepage:
“Olympiacos C.F.P. would like to announce a season-long loan to San Lorenzo for footballer Cristian Ledesma.”
