What happened to Mirnes?

By: Peter Katsiris | October 9th, 2008

With the new season now in full gear, it seems apparent that the experimental days are now over at Karaiskaki, and manager Ernesto Valverde has found his starting squad. The Spaniard has had the opportunity to import his players of choice, and has arguably put them to use for the majority of the new season’s introduction.

That leaves many uncertain about their future with the club; one in particular is Mirnes Sisic. The Slovenia international transferred to Olympiacos last January from fellow Greek Super League side Levadeiakos. Sisic played a little role in Olympiacos title defense, but was influential in the club’s run and ultimate triumph in the Greek Cup. Despite impressing with minnows Levadiakos, Sisic never managed to do the same with Olympiacos; and it appears that he will never get a shot at redemption.

On the international level, Sisic has seen more playing time and has been able to hold down a starting role with the national team despite hardly playing for Olympiacos. If Sisic is to ‘win’ his spot back with the club, his performances while on duty with Slovenia will have to be the deciding factor.

Until then, it appears Sisic is one of the many selfish players to be found in the Olympiacos ranks. His self-centered side has led him to be labeled a ‘prima donna’, after voicing his frustration over not making any appearances for the club. Since then, Sisic has expressed discomfort with the Greek Champions and t appears both parties are ready to go their own way if the price is right. According to the Slovenian, offers from Germany and Portugal lie in the balance if he chooses to leave.
